ABOUT THIS EVENT

All We Can See From Here proposes a ritual of interdependence. Four dancers build a succession of symmetrical, interlocking shelters with their bodies. A geometric diagram on the floor designates the performance’s zone of operations, where resources are equally distributed, and everyone has committed to stay and “work it out.” When synchrony falters, the team ceremonially re-calibrates.

Collaborating dancers: Kennedy Alexandria, Lauren Kunath and Andy Slavin
Sound Artist: Joseph Kramer
Drone videographer: Justin Lynk
Costume Designer: Sky Cubacub

About Ginger Krebs

Ginger Krebs is a long time Chicago-based visual artist and choreographer, best known for ensemble performances that use dry humor, precise choreography, and perceptual disorientation to address forms of empire and colonization, surveillance technology and image-driven culture. Her dance draws from vernacular movement that non-dancers can relate to. Its physicality and self-effacing humor reflect the industrial, agricultural, Midwestern place where it has been made

Krebs made sculpture before shifting her focus to performance, and an emphasis on the materiality of bodies, as well as the awkwardness of existing as a body in the world, continue to inform her dance. Krebs’s Rehearsals for Becoming Gods was described by dance critic Zac Whittenburg as “inherently funny without having a clear here joke to ‘get,’” and Buffer Overrun was chosen for the Chicago Tribunes Best Dance of 2016 and called “brilliant” and “lovingly crafted and performed” by critic Laura Molzahn.

Krebs has taught performance and time arts at The School of the Art Institute since 2004. She was awarded residencies at the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC) at the Florida State University-Tallahassee and the National Center for Choreography – Akron in 2019, and at The Chicago Artists Coalition, MacDowell, Ucross, and Djerassi in years prior. She was recognized with an Artist Fellowship Award in Performance-Based Arts by the Illinois Arts Council in 2019, a MAP Fund grant in 2015, and a Chicago Dancemakers Forum Lab Artist Award in 2014.

All We Can See From Here has been partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, and by an Individual Artists Program Grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events. It has been further supported by High Concept Labs in Joint Residency with the Monira Foundation at Mana Contemporary, Chicago, and by a residency at the Bogliasco Foundation in Genoa, Italy
