About this Event
Hosted by Jasmin Taylor, Trust Coming Home is an evening of movement, sound and connection with various Chicago based artists and trainees of the Joffrey Contemporary Ballet Program. Inspired by Taylor’s return to–and safety within–her body, this evening hopes to inspire others to return to–and safely reside within–their own bodies.
Trust Coming Home is inspired from a quote by Stephen Cope in Bessel Van DerKolk'sThe Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma: “The ‘night sea journey’ is the journey into the parts of ourselves that are split off, disavowed, unknown, unwanted, cast out, and exiled to the various subterranean worlds of consciousness... The goal of this journey is to reunite us with ourselves. Such a homecoming can be surprisingly painful, even brutal. In order to undertake it, we must first agree to exile nothing.”

I am inspired by my return to and safety within my body. Everyone looking to integrate the fullness of their being into their everyday experiences must partake in their own 'night sea journey'. I have just reclaimed my worthiness, healing, and completed a large portion of mine. I can finally say to all parts of me: “I love you. I love my body, my thoughts, my feelings. I love my life. I and my maker are the only authors of my life. I am excellence personified, intentionally.” I desire that for all, the knowledge that you can rewire, recover and author your life– and the courage to do so.
About Jasmin Taylor
Jasmin Taylor, née Williams, is an anointed multidisciplinary artist, storyteller and problem solver. She is a native Chicagoan who has trained, worked and lived through the U.S., Israel and Western Europe. Jasmin has studied under Dance Theater of Harlem, Dance Italia and Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company. She has performed at the Harris Theater, the Goodman Theater, the Museum of Contemporary Art, in the Netflix series Soundtrack; and in Memoria with the Alvin Ailey Company. She has also been featured in film festivals throughout the country in The Good Christian by Motion/Pictures Dance Project.
Taylor is currently co-producing the Inside the Studio series for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, with Motion/Pictures Dance Project. Taylor is also a 2022 Art on theMART's Year of Dance commissioned artist. As a choreographer, dancer, and producer she has had the pleasure of working with TEDxStanford, Links Hall, Jamila Woods, Smino Brown, James Alsop; and Grammy-Award-winning artists Cashmere Cat and ChancetheRapper.
Her choreographic work has been featured in VICE, Rolling Stone, Complex Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, Sun-Times, and more. As a vocalist, Jasmin has headlined at the Promontory and has performed at the Harris Theater, Wicker Park Fest, The METRO, and The Tackroom. She’s also completed a six-week tour throughout the U.S. and London with SoFarSounds.
Lastly, Taylor owns a cooking business called The Munching Millennial where she shares homemade dishes and “15- to 30 minute Recipes from Prep to Plate” virtually for free, whilst sponsoring 100% community donation based in-person community outreach events, monthly.
All of Jasmin’s work encourages true vulnerability and interdependence; she works to promote respect, love, and unity within diversity in all communities. Stay tuned, many announcements for the Fall '22 and Spring '23 are on the way :)
